Judge TaTeasha Davis is a standard bearer for fairness and professionalism on the Pierce County Superior Court bench. Throughout her career, Judge Davis has embodied the attributes of compassion, integrity, and responsiveness in her pursuit of justice in service of the Pierce County community. As a current candidate seeking re-election to the bench, the official campaign invites you to evaluate Judge Davis’s extensive qualifications, wide-ranging legal experience, and strong commitment to ensuring that everyone who walks through her courtroom doors is treated fairly and with respect and dignity.

Education and Experience

Judge Davis’s legal career has spanned more than two decades and includes a rich diversity of both criminal and civil law practice and administration. She graduated from the University of Washington School of Law, beginning her practice as a Financial Law Attorney on complex financial litigation and consumer protection issues. Judge Davis next worked as a Staff Attorney for the Tacoma YWCA, providing legal services advocacy for domestic violence survivors. She provided counsel through the justice system for victims of domestic violence-the most oppressed and frightened members of our society-with true compassion and understanding.

Judge Davis’s development in public service continued through her appointment to the Indeterminate Sentence Review Board for the State of Washington, examining parole and sentencing cases that artfully balanced the competing interests of public safety and individuals’ rehabilitation interest. Judge Davis was appointed to the Pierce County Superior Court bench in 2017, then elected to that office in 2018. Since taking the bench, Judge Davis has presided over thousands of cases, including serious criminal felonies, complex family law cases, and vast commercial and residential property civil adjudications.

Proven Judicial Leadership

Judge Davis has distinguished herself on the bench and has earned the respect and admiration of her peers who comprise the entire Pierce County Superior Court bench, as she was unanimously endorsed by her colleagues. Judge Davis was also rated Exceptionally Well Qualified by independent legal groups based upon her legal knowledge, ethical demeanor, temperament, and judgment. These rare endorsements speak to Judge Davis’s fairness, work ethic, and ability to analyze legal issues in a concise, collaborative approach.

Her courtroom is well respected for her professionalism and accessibility. Litigants, attorneys, and jurors give Judge Davis high marks for her clear communication with everyone who appears in her courtroom, along with her patience and openness to make sure all individuals have their voices heard. Judge Davis feels that justice is best done when the courtroom is dignified, respectful, and all voices are heard.

A Broad Approach to the Law

As a Financial Law Attorney, Judge Davis gained experience in complex financial disputes and in consumer rights matters. She worked at the Tacoma YWCA as a legal advocate where she interacted directly with domestic violence survivors, engaged in sensitive family law matters, and interfaced with clients who were trying to rebuild and re-stabilize their lives. On the Indeterminate Sentence Review Board, Judge Davis gained experience working directly on recommendations involving criminal justice reform, rehabilitation, and public safety.

These diverse experiences help Judge Davis bring an informed and compassionate perspective to every case she encounters. She is uniquely aware of how judicial proceedings affect families, victims of crime, and the accused. Her interest in lifelong learning and professional development means that she is consistently up-to-date on legal best practices and rapidly evolving community concerns.

A Commitment to Access to Justice

Equal access to justice is at the heart of the judicial philosophy of Judge Davis. Judge Davis has led court initiatives to accomplish greater accessibility to the court including involvement in language access programs that support projects to provide language assistance services as well as active leadership in efforts to provide self-help resources for self-represented litigants. Judge Davis frequently engages in outreach within the community, promotes access to legal education seminars, and participates in other civic activities to provide opportunities geared toward demystifying the judicial process.

It is her firm belief that no party or witness should ever feel unwelcome while crossing the threshold of her courtroom, and she strives to promote an environment which serves everyone fairly and impartially while complying with the highest ethical standards. As such, Judge Davis instills a respect amongst those who practice in her courtroom, making herself readily accessible to attorneys, parties, and other judicial officers alike. Judge Davis participates actively on panels in seminars addressing Legal Malpractice Seminars, as well as those dealing with guardianship, criminal law matters, family law, civil law, and class action litigation.

Judge Davis believes her job as judge does not begin and end with what happens inside her courtroom. Judge Davis regularly volunteers at local schools, participating in civics programs aimed at educating youth about the law and giving them the tools to know how to be responsible citizens in their communities. Outside of her work on the bench, Judge Davis actively participates and volunteers with many local nonprofits and serves on the boards of a number of nonprofits that serve the Pierce County community.
